Endodontist Dr. Sandra R. Makkar

Dr. MakkarDr. Sandra R. Makkar is committed to providing the highest quality care in a relaxed environment. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan. She then pursued her endodontic training at Temple University, where she was the recipient of the Richard Weiss Achievement Award for outstanding proficiency in the graduate program. Dr. Makkar completed her general practice residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in New York. She is also board certified in endodontics in Canada, where she is a member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Canada.

A diplomate (board certified member) of the American Association of Endodontists as well as memberships in the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Dental Society enable Dr. Makkar to continuously improve patient care. She resides on the North Shore District Dental Society Executive Committee as the secretary. She is a board examiner for the Royal Canadian College of Dentists of Canada. She is also a member of the Massachusetts American Association of Dentists and the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Journal of Endodontics. She is an involved member of the Endo Inc. Root Canal Specialists Study Club, the North Shore Perio-Prosthetic Study Club and the Middlesex County Study Club.

In addition to being a clinical instructor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Department of Graduate Endodontics, Dr. Makkar regularly attends continuing education courses to remain informed of the latest advancements in her field. At Tufts School of Dental Medicine she taught a continuing education seminar on “Current Concepts in Endodontic Care,” and recently lectured on the topic of “The Management of Dental Traumatic Issues” at the Yankee Dental Congress. She presented “Whole Genomic DNA Probe for Detection of Porphyromonas Endodontalis” at the International Association of Dental Research in France, and at the American Association of Endodontists in Georgia. Her study also appeared in the Journal of Dental Research and the Journal of Endodontics.  Dr. Makkar was also the recipient of the Ten Under Ten award of the Massachusetts Dental Society in recognition of her significant contributions to her field.
